18 people met last night to begin looking at LIDAR images of our parish and try to identify the man-made features of the past. Participants joined in enthusiastically and learnt to distinguish signs of Medieval strip fields from modern ploughing patterns and iron age barrows from signs of circular hay bales. We enjoyed getting out our crayons and marker pens and highlighting signs former hedges and buildings. For those who were able to spot their own properties or land on the images, it was even more exciting. We are looking forward to working on this project and gaining a better understanding of our landscape. Thanks must go to Tony Gist for his guidance.
