R is for Registers

The registers of baptism, marriage and burial for the Anglican Church of St. Mary and St. Benedict date from the earliest years of the seventeenth centry. They have been transcribed by the late Marjorie Snetzler and North Devon Record Office have produced a surname index to the transcripts. We have put all the burials into a searchable database and have cross-referenced these with the monumental inscriptions. We are also collecting references to people from Buckland Brewer who were buried elsewhere. We are in the process of inputting the marriages and will then move on to baptisms.

Vital events also took place in the five non-conformist chapels in the parish but their records are proving to be much more difficult to track down. If anyone knows the whereabouts of the burial register for Eckworthy Baptist Chapel we would love to know.
