Buckland Wills and Buckland Soldiers in Canada

We have just downloaded a list of over 600 wills for people from Buckland Brewer, thanks to the Devon Wills Project. Sadly, beside each one is the comment ‘not surviving’. Most Devon probate material was destroyed in the Second World War. It is hard to know whether to be excited about the list or frustrated at the thought of all that wonderful information that has been lost.

One of our members has been looking at Canadian British Regimental Registers 1756 – 1900, which are available if you have a subscription to Ancestry. These are records of British soldiers serving in Canada. So far we have discovered John Whitlock of ‘Brockinbrow’ and George Harris of ‘Bucklanbrewer’. There will be more about these men in the next newsletter.
